Hello, our dear members!

Thank you for your contribution to our group's gallery! Having so many active members is amazing, you are all amazing!:heart:

And now to the matter at hand.
As many of you have probably noticed, we had to limit the number of submissions to 4 submissions per week.
Another thing some of you noticed is that we've been very slow with accepting new submissions.

We've run into a problem. The group's founder stopped visiting dA a long time ago, but we were always able to contact him via other social media to have him change the group settings and what not. Well, now it looks like he's really disappeared, without switching ownership of the group to someone else.
I did ask him to do that, BUT OH WELL.
And now we're stuck. Only co-founders are able to vote on incoming submission and basically I'm the only active co-founder....
With each new folder we create, the contributors lose the ability to vote and see incoming submissions.

The expiration time of submissions has be changed to 1 month though.
But still, I know how frustrating waiting for  weeks to get your art featured in a group is, and sometimes you're waiting only to have it rejected.
I also know how annoying it is to suddenly hit the submissions limit!

So we've been thinking about moving the group. Fantasy-Arts as it is now is slowly, but surely going to die.
What do you think? Literally any kind of comment/feedback is welcome.

I am still with you. This group has good content and as long the contentcreators will follow the new group will be as good as this one.
So fine for me :)

Has the Founder of the group actually closed his account?  I only see Co-Founders listed in the group info.  If he has indeed quit dA completely, it's possible that dA's Help Desk ( help.deviantart.com/contact/?t… ) might be able to offer an option.  From past experience, I know they won't take away Founder status from a technically active account (even if the person hasn't logged in in a couple of years); but, if the group is obviously still active and the Founder has officialy retired their account, perhaps something can be done.
Failing that, moving the group is probably inevitable.  When that happens, you will lose members - either because some of them are inactive themselves, because they don't notice the announcements that the group will be moving, or they simply can't be bothered to join the new group.  However, it's better then letting the group die of attrition because proper management is no longer possible; better to do it while interest is still strong.
For my part, I'd be happy to follow the group to a new location.

If I may offer a bit of advice:  to minimize member loss, it may be helpful to post more than a single notice when the time comes to move.  For example: start a new group immediately, and then post a Journal that says something like the following:
"We are moving to (link), and will be closing Fantasy-Arts as of (date; perhaps three months from the announcement).  This being the case, we advise members to start submitting to the new group immediately.  We will continue to monitor the group until that time, in case people do not get this message.  However, all other activity will be done through the new group."
Put this notice/Journal right on the front page of the group (if you still have the capability) and let it sit there for a couple of months.  During that time, do everything you can to get the word out - including removing the ability to submit new art (if possible), mentioning the move to commenters, passing word along to Affiliate Groups and so on.
Additionally, draft up a copy-and-paste message that you can use to reply to any submitted artwork; something like:
"Thanks for your interest in Fantasy-Arts!  Please be advised that our group will be closing due to the retirement of our Group Founder.  However, please feel free to submit to our replacement group (link).  We will be happy to process it from there."
One month before the deadline, post another similar journal announcement - i.e. "Just a friendly reminder that Fantasy-Arts will be closing as of (date), etc."  This second announcement will give procrastinators a gentle kick in the pants to join the new group before it's too late - and serve as a failsafe for anyone who might have missed the initial message, so they can get the link to the new group.
Finally, when the time comes, make it a clean break.  Put a farewell message on the front page, with a link to the new group to direct any stragglers home, and advise that no further monitoring of the group will take place.  Remove the ability to comment, and put a stop to any other activity, if possible.  Leave only the open door to the new location. Some might even consider closing the group at this point; but I suspect that may not be possible with the Founder gone.  In any case, leaving the group to drift at least allows people to view the old artwork and provide traffic to the artists, see the link to the new spot and so on.

Anyway, that's my input.  As a final thought, I'd also make sure to try every possible vector to get ahold of the Founder, to tactfully let him know that you don't want to close the group, but will be forced to move if the situation can't be resolved.
Whatever happens, I wish you the best.  I haven't been a member of this group super-long; but I've enjoyed my stay, and drawn a lot of inspiration from my fellow members.

moving would probably be best. i mean, it's inconvenient and all, but trying to operate without the founder is just a slow, miserable death of a group. i don't know much about it, but is there no way you can take control if the founder's account is inactivefor such and such amount of time?

Sounds like the only sensible thing you can do, but then.... 16 000 members. It's likely you'll lose many of them.... for one reason or another. But then, what else is there to be done? Have you tried consulting the Help Desk? Certainly the site admins can do something on the matter (though not sure they would interfere in a case like that).

Well, moving the group is an option, but you will only get a small amount of people moving with you, that's what I have seen in the past on other groups.

Maybe you can try this instead (of course you can move, this is just a hint)

If I understand you right, there is a folder (folders) that contributors can vote on but those are full? If that is the problem, move all the submissions from that folder to another. If you can create new folders, you should also be able to do that. So there will always be enough space in the folder where contributors can vote on.

However you dicide! GOOD LUCK!

There is not much else left when that happens, there are too many dead groups around as it is and I would rather move than to submit to a place where nothing much is happening anymore.
Take it as a chance to think about the changes you always wanted for the group but never were possible. So tumbs up for the move!

I don't know whether you've exhausted your efforts in finding the owner, but if you haven't, do that first.  Moving the group will require more effort than you're probably aware of right now, so maybe finding the owner will be easier.
If it's not, though, moving the group is the only option.  Just let everyone know, is all, which is pretty obvious.

This is becoming a trend among DA groups. Founder or majority of admins are permanently out to lunch leaving the group with few options.

I'm in favor of a new group with new rules. In the meantime, set this one to auto-accept and open an extra set of folders for those who don't want to move/aren't paying attention. With a final journal linking to the new group and stating that when the folders are full, the old group will officially be inactive.
